CETI's aim is to study and treat situations of infertility and we are equipped to carry out all types of treatments, in particular gamete donation cycles.
Treatments using donated gametes are aimed at providing a response to situations where fertilisation is completely compromised due to the absence or poor quality of the reproductive cells in one or both of the partners.
In 2012, CETI began a programme for recruiting and selecting egg donors. This is an extremely selective and careful process.
Donations are voluntary and altruistic. However, Portuguese law allows a monetary payment to be made for any inconveniences directly or indirectly associated with the donation.
The donor is chosen very carefully, taking into account the phenotypic characteristics of the recipient (eye colour, hair colour/type, height, weight and blood group) so that they are as similar as possible.
Recommended for couples where the female partner:
- is of advanced reproductive age;
- has ovarian failure (premature, menopausal or post-surgical);
- has poor quality eggs;
- has hereditary diseases;
- has had successive fertilisation or implantation failures in IVF/ICSI treatments;
- has had several miscarriages.
Following careful analysis by CETI in the choice of donor, the receiving woman begins treatment to prepare the endometrium and, later, to receive the embryos.
The preparation of the endometrium is synchronised with the ovarian stimulation of the donor.
CETI uses certified and authorised national and international banks for recruiting and selecting donors.
Recommended for couples where the male partner:
- has poor quality sperm;
- has no sperm, either in ejaculation or in the testicular biopsy;
- has hereditary diseases;
- has had successive fertilisation failures in IVF/ICSI treatments.
After assessing the couple and recording their phenotypic characteristics, the sperm sample with the desired characteristics is ordered. It is transported in a suitable container, thus assuring the integrity and quality of the sample.
I WANT TO DONATE
Donation is a voluntary and altruistic act.
You can donate eggs at CETI. When you join a donation programme, you will be submitted to a series of tests in order to ensure that you are able to donate and you will be monitored by a doctor throughout the entire process.
Article 18 of Law no. 32/2006 makes it very clear that the purchase or sale of eggs, semen or embryos or any biological material arising from the application of MAR techniques is prohibited. Portuguese law states that the donation of eggs shall be a voluntary process, benevolent in nature, where the donors receive monetary compensation to reimburse them for expenses or losses directly and immediately arising from the donation. This compensation is defined in the terms set by the National Council for Medically Assisted Reproduction, pursuant to the provisions of Article 22(3) of Law 12/2009, of 26 March, and of Order no. 5015/2011 published in the Diário da República, 2nd series - No. 58, 23 March 2011, at a value of 1.5 times the Social Support Index, currently at €628.83.
- Aged between 18 and 34;
- You must be healthy, with no history of sexually transmitted diseases or genetic or other diseases;
- You must not have donated eggs more than three times;
- If you have donated before, you cannot donate again until at least 6 months later.
